About Me + Blog

I was born on the cusp of the independence era in Trinidad. I lived through the boom and the bust of the oil shock. I survive in the doldrums of the new century with the detritus of a generation of failed learning. But I am still here, despite the sound of it all. I read. I write. I do arithmetic. "I went away/I leave and I come back home." That is the nature of the culture shock.

Caribbean music, from the earliest recorded by notation and disc to digital, captures emotions and sounds that define a melting pot of influences and commonalities. Jazz in the Caribbean is about fusion. This blog is a collection of critical appraisals of music performance and recordings from the Caribbean, and opinions on the business of music here.

This blog also serves as an extension of the Jazz in the Islands magazine. You can subscribe, read and share the magazine at magazine.jazz.tt
